2020 Season - Return to Training

The 2020 community football season is going to be unlikely any previous year at Abbotsford Juniors Football Club (AJFC) with training subject to a number of very important social distancing measures and other guidelines agreed by football associations, government and government health agencies to ensure the safety of all players, coaches, club members, parents and the wider community.  This page provides important information on the new guidelines as well as where to find checklists, attendance registers and training drill suggestions.

Return to Football Training Guidelines
It is critically important that all volunteers, coaches, managers, players and parents are familiar with the Return to Football guidelines issued by Football NSW and endorsed by the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA) and the Club.  A copy of these guidelines can be found here.

The key guidelines for the conduct of football training sessions at AJFC are:

    •  Football pitches will be split into quarters and halves for training purposes

    •  Full squads will be allocated to one quarter of the pitch but must stay in their team groupings at all times

    •  Social distancing is to be implemented – at least 1.5m between people at all times

    •  Person-to-person contact training drills (tackling or challenges) may be conducted

    •  Minimise equipment handling and ensure all equipment is cleaned after use

    •  Heading drills are prohibited and handling of equipment must be minimised eg no throw in’s.

    •  Regular breaks are to be provided so that players can hydrate and use hand sanitiser

    •  If training bibs are used, each individual player is to be allocated a bib and they are responsible for taking the bib home to wash and return after each training session

    •  Players are to enter and leave the pitch in a timely manner minimising social contact and large gatherings

AJFC Operational Changes
There are also a number of changes that the Club will be making to ensure compliance with the new guidelines:

    •  Teams will be allocated quarter or half pitches according to a first-in, first-served booking system based on team size and need (20 people per quarter pitch). Details on how to book will be available soon.

    •  Training sessions will be shortened to reflect the fact that they will be skills based and to allow a 15 minute setup and packup time between sessions and teams.

    •  Any person attending a training session other than players, coaches and managers is required to register their attendance using their phone and the COVID registration QR codes which are displayed on red training dummies located around Campbell Park, Lysaght Park and at the Campbell Park Club House.

    •  Coaches will be required to keep a record of attendance (including players, coaches/managers and parents) for all training sessions.  The Club is producing training registration spreadsheets pre-populated with team player details and will distribute this to all registered coaches and managers to assist with this task.  An example of the proposed spreadsheet can be seen here.

    •  The Clubhouse will be open during training sessions and portable/training goals, training posts or other equipment will be possible at this time.

    •  Hand sanitiser stations and bins will be provided

    •  COVID Safe signage and posters will be displayed prominently at the Club house.

Player Responsibilities
Our successful return to community football will be dependent upon everyone playing their part.  This is just as true of our players as it is our coaches, managers, volunteers and club officials.  Players returning to training should follow these simple guidelines:

•  Arrive at training 5 minutes prior, dressed and ready to start

•  Wash or sanitise your hands before and after training

•  Fill and bring your own clearly labelled water bottle from home. Do not share water bottles or other equipment.

•  And most importantly, do not attend training if you exhibit any of the following symptoms: Fever, Cough, Fatigue, Sore Throat or Shortness of Breath.
